It is the largest public park in Madrid. Its history begins with the decision of Philip II to move the Court to Madrid to reside there. The king formed an estate that joined the Palace with the hunting ground of El Pardo and around this nucleus were added farms and fields purchased from the neighbors. With the arrival of the Second Republic, the space was ceded to the people of Madrid, who have since made it their favorite park. During the civil war it was the front of battles and bombings that affected its old buildings and made new military constructions appear, which can still be seen. In 2010, it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of Historic Site. 💡Curiosities Inside are located various facilities, such as the Amusement Park, the remodeled Lake of the Casa de Campo, the Zoo, the Cable Car (which connects the Casa de Campo with the Parque del Oeste, on the other side of the Manzanares River), fairgrounds, the multipurpose pavilion Madrid Arena, the Venta del Batán (traditional place for the running of the bulls in the days prior to their fight in the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas) and various popular sports facilities.
