Plaza de San Ildefonso" is a public space in the old Barrio de Maravillas, in the so-called Malasaña area of the capital of Spain. The square is presided over by the Church of San Ildefonso. Here was installed one of the first covered markets in Madrid until 1970, the San Ildefonso market. Lost among pedestrian streets, the square is surrounded by bars, terraces and vintage stores. Its adjacent streets are also full of stores of all kinds such as decoration, music and shoes among others. The statue is of a female student, placed directly on the ground, without any pedestal. The work is the result of the public competition for the renovation of the urban landscape of the neighborhood with the installation of sculptures by new artists. Signed by Rafael Gonzalez, she is dressed in pants, boots and a wide sweater, with her backpack on her shoulder and her folder under her arm. She looks like just another passerby in this frequented neighborhood square.
