Plaza del dos de mayo

The Plaza del Dos de Mayo is the undisputed heart of the Malasaña neighborhood. The name of this lively square refers to the uprisings of May 2, 1808, when the people of Madrid rebelled against Napoleon's invading troops. Today it is full of bars and cafes with terraces, where young people and families crowd it especially on weekends, when it also usually hosts craft markets and young design. The streets that converge in it are marked by an alternative character, with different fashion stores, which offer from young designs to vintage clothing, we can even find local drinks of pop-rock tradition and varied restaurants. 💡Curiosities Here we also find the central monument to Daoiz and Velarde pays tribute to two of the heroes of this historical episode.
